Jorge Detlefs: Yep, 5yo's should be able to handle basic card games. I played Go Fish, Old Maid, Crazy 8's and even Rummy with my kids since they were around that age.
Coleman Petropoulos: Can they, yes, do they already have the foundation to build on that would allow them to. That depends on the kid.
Wilbur Marksberry: Yes 5 year olds understand and play go fish.
Sammie Bocanegra: Kids love games... even at the age of 5. You could bring a few board games with you as well and just keep them in storage until there is free time. They also tend to like activity games... pickup sticks and 52-card pick-up would work well with minimal supplies. Word games like "My name is Alan, I was born in Alabama and I like alligators" works well... unless some of them have speech problems. Tongue twisters always keep them laughing (she sells seashells down by the seashore, etc).i-Spy is a big game my mother uses with her daycare kids that keeps them entertained for a long ! time. So does 50 Questions or something like that. Memory games work well to keep them busy... try asking each boy to pick an animal... then give them a small ball or something to toss and they have to name the person (by animal) before they toss it to the next kid. But they cannot toss it to the same person twice. Then switch it up and they have to make the animal sound before they toss... etc. Hope that helps!Good luck!...Show more
Mitchel Demry: yes, 5-year-olds can be taught simple card games, and it would likely work as an activity for a small group. however, i wouldn't expect it to work well as an activity for a large group for that age range. if you're talking about more than 3 or 4 kids, i'd aim for a different choice. duck-duck-goose, i spy, silly camp songs, coloring, etc. my daughter was a counselor in training for that age group last summer and had a huge repertoire of random camp games that would be too hard to describe in the space i have here, but i! f you google camp games you'll probably find a lot of good qui! ck time-fillers....Show more
