Why is American cuisine so ... boring?

Sabra Roers: Meijers and most Muslim stores will be open.

Irvin Guiles: I think you are the boring person, and know nothing about the variety in American Cuisine.-Southern Fried Chicken-Boston Cream Pie-New England Clam Chowder-Texas BBQ Ribs-Boiled Maine Lobster-Chicago Hot Dogs-Southwestern Cobb Salad- New York Style PizzaNeed say more?...Show more

Jude Colbenson: Unless you're going to an authentic restaurant, most ethnic restaurants anywhere are going to serve dishes that have been heavily modified for the local population. And yes, the US has great food you just have to know how to look for it:* Avoid all fast food places - I shouldn't even need to explain why.* Avoid any chain restaurant - the food will be, at best, bland and overpriced.* Ask the locals where they go for good authentic [...] food. Fill in the blank as appropriate. And keep in mind, if you want Chinese food (for instance) you want the places where other Chinese people eat at - not where! most Americans eat at because American Chinese food is nothing like real Chinese food. You want to find the local specialties. The dishes that the locals are proud of because these are the dishes people think of when they think of that city or region. It also depends on where you're at, too. Where I live, it's quite possible to eat an entirely different type of food every night. Pho for lunch...tacos for dinner. Name a country and/or style of food and it's somewhere around here......Show more

Jerrod Guilfoil: No all closed. We are having roast lamb, roast pots, carrots, broccoli, peas and mint sauce. You are most welcome.

Maria Bengston: it means dead animals that all of the blood as been drained out of.totally cleaned.... gross huh

Glynda Darrin: The Hebrew word "Kasheir," or "Kosher," means fit or proper. When applied to food, the term indicates that an item is fit for consumption according to Jewish law. The word "Kashruth" refers to the general subjec! t of Kosher food. There are three categories of Kosher food - M! eat, Dairy and Parve (or Pareve).1. Meat - For an animal to be Kosher, it must have split hooves and chew its cud. (Examples: cow, goat, lamb.) Non-Kosher animals include pig, horse, camel and rabbit. Kosher fowl include chicken, turkey, goose, and certain duck. Animals and fowl must be slaughtered by a specialist, called a shochet, and then soaked and salted in accordance with Jewish law. All carnivorous (meat-eating) animals and fowl, and the blood of all animals and fowl, and any derivatives or products thereof, are not Kosher.2. Dairy - Milk and milk products (cheese, cream, butter, etc.) of a Kosher animal are Kosher-Dairy. These may not be eaten in combination with meat or fowl.3. Parve - Foods which contain neither meat nor dairy ingredients are called "Parve." All fruits, grains and vegetables in their natural state are Kosher and Parve. Fish which have fins and scales are Kosher and Parve. Some examples are salmon, halibut and carp. Not Kosher fish species include ! sturgeon, catfish and swordfish. All shellfish, eel, sharks, underwater mammals, and reptiles are not Kosher. A Parve item can become either dairy or meat when it is cooked together with food in either category. (Example: fish fried in butter is considered dairy, not Parve.)...Show more

David Kuper: I like it I do not care for anything too hot seasoned or fruity or foreign tasting.

Alexandria Popik: I have traveled a lot and have felt the same way as you do, I have come to the conclusion that Americans like food that is safe; they won't venture that much outside their comfort zone and eat meals that are extraordinary. Take sushi for example, in Japan sushi is not found in rolls, there is rice with fish on top. Making the rolls keeps the American customers comfortable because it almost resembles a wrap which resembles a taco or a sandwich and a taco/sandwich is non-threatening. when talking about my adventurous eating exploits many of my friends would talk abo! ut not eating "gross" things like that. America is diverse, but some pe! ople are not ready to eat what the world has to offer. I hope that helps....Show more

Rickey Vrieze:

Armando Somes: Get off your fat as* and go and have a look

Rosann Mccomb: If you eat yourself, you can stop gaining weight.

Dorine Nurre: well would help if we know where you ate at. there's a lot of great American but since America has some many people from different countries no food is really American it's a blend of many different types of foods from different countries. We have great Bbq restaurants cajun southern try those next time you eat out.

Cassey Hollinghurst: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosher_foods

Merlin Fleischhacker: it means blessed by a rabbi.

An Cardine: about 2-3 days ago i thawed out sausage then accidentley put it in the freezer and its still in the freezer.. if i thaw it out will it be okay to cook and use for jambalaya?

Elissa Curlin: oh dear god ur wasting away!!!!!

Esteban Lyson: o dear grab ! a burger down the high street

Vince Delarge: Nope we care about quickness of the meal, not quality. We try to do what ever is easiest.

Moises Rupinski: What the other people said lolz.

Faustino Mellerson: In other countries, you don't even need to go to ethnic/foreign restaurants to experience variety, the national food alone is so various already. AND they have foreign restaurants too, albeit not as many as in America.

Providencia Serpe: Not the wisest thing to do, but a lot of these news reports and food shows overstate the danger. If it was sitting on the counter for over an hour, I'd toss it, if it was shorter than that, I'd be happy to eat it.

Hans Sachetti: I bought loads of food on thursday night, infact I had 2 trolleys but its running out fast.

Claire Billegas: Kosher food is prepared in the Jewish manner to meet their religious beliefs. Kosher means 'pure', it doesn't mean prayed over.It is a term now use to describe other thin! gs like Kosher Salt, which merely means it is pure salt and doesn't con! tain iodine.

Romeo Tinnea: Every time I submit a question, even if it is the easiest one, they can't offer me a proper informed answer . Wtf happened to people who really take the time to write an answer??

Donny Bankson: This is probably a function of where you are and what you've eaten versus American cuisine itself. Certainly regional food in America, think of the American South, is known for its oddity and variety. What's boring about shrimp and grits...for breakfast...may I ask you? People in different parts of the country cook and fry and bake all sorts of things that the neighbors in other parts of the country find truly odd and exotic. Why have chili bake-offs if everyone was going to bring the same dish, after all? Why so many cooking shows exhibiting traditional American foods from different parts of the country (the South is particularly popular of late). While it's true that many American dishes aren't as adventurous as those found in other parts ! of the world, I'm still pretty sure that anyone would find fried 'gator interesting to say the least. If you're looking for interesting, authentic, American cuisine that's not boring try going someplace that's more dive than divine. The decor may be a little scary, but the variety and flavor may surprise you. And, as you said, America is a land of immigrants, so we have Americanized lots of dishes. If you're looking for authentic ethnic food, try places that are in ethnic enclaves: the Chinatowns, Koreatowns, Little Pakistans, etc., of the city where you live. The food will be cheaper and will cater to people who are recently from their home-nation.Hope that helps. Happy eating!...Show more

Jonathan Schlussel: You're starving? Boy by the looks of your picture, you look like you have enough food for a life time.Just kidding, but in all seriousness, I honestly have no clue.

Sol Allphin: No, I would toss it. Bacteria thrives during the thawing process.

! Eldridge Rieves: It all depends on where you live. If you're fortunate! enough to live in a major city of approximately 1 million population or more, then you should have quite a variety of ethnic cuisines to chose from. It also depends on the region. I have found that the farther away from the coasts or the Great Lakes you go, the more bland the native cuisine gets, with the exception of the Southwest. I dare you to call Louisiana cuisine boring; go ahead, I DOUBLE dare ya!!

Aron Ramu: the USDA says its completely safe to re-freeze thawed meat, as long as it was thawed safe.sausage is already either partially or fully cured by salt, spices and sometimes smoke, so that will help even more.

Delora Struzzi: I am English and I agree that American food generally isn't that great, but I think you need to keep away from the fast food chains and seek out the independent locally run restaurants and diners. There is lots of great regional food to try and if you do a bit of research for the area you are in, I am sure you can eat some rea! lly great meals!I hated US food when I first came, but now have an unhealthy addiction to their enormous traditional breakfasts - which I think have a lot more variety and choice than our Full English! As well as regional specialities there are lots of influences from Mexican food and European food developed over time as people have immigrated to the states.Find an independent diner/restaurant and soak up the atmosphere - they are great for people watching and if you are foreign people will want to talk to you. Americans are so friendly, it doesn't matter if the food is a bit rubbish from time to time! America is awesome!...Show more

Cassondra Vanholland: I don't know where you're located, but I live near DC and the variety here is endless and while YES we have Michel Richard and Inn at Little Washington we also have AWESOME incredible reasonably priced ethnic foods of {name a culture} from Southern to Cajun to Ethiopian, Mediterranean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, ! Korean, Irish, Italian, Spanish, French, British, German, I can't think! of anything we DON'T have in the metropolitan area here... shoot, on U St. corridor alone, there's like 10 different cultures represented and some of the most authentic and least expensive Ethiopian food I've ever had.America is a melting pot so our cuisine comes from all over. Cajun food is Creole and French and Southern food is all based on what slaves brought from Africa and cooked here. It's a rich culture-filled mixing bowl of everything and I know at least here and in NYC you can't possibly miss the variety. Maybe there's not a lot of variety in white bread middle America, I don't know, I don't live there... but don't cast the whole country into one lot because where you've visited you haven't found sufficient variety....Show more

Reginald Maxi: by the looks of ya.. maybe you should just fast today?

Jorge Detlefs: Caroline answered most of it.I just want to add, that all items used in the kitchen and at the table may not be mingled, but everything used! for meat is only suitable for meat, and all bowls, plates, pots etc used for dairy food can only be used for dairy food, never for meat. Also insects, for example in grapes or other fruit have to be avoided. Once you even see a tiny fruit fly close to some fruit, it is not kosher anymore....Show more

Rhett Kaines: Kosher means that its blessed by a Rabbi... that's it.

Warren Kotter: It's perfectly OK to use the sausage. Our mothers taught us that thawing and refreezing foods made them poisonous but, unless you left the sausage on a warm stove for a day, it's perfectly OK to use after refreezing. I'll often semi-thaw a hunk of meat, cut off what I want to use and then rewrap and refreeze what's left ...and we're still alive and kicking.(btw, I love Jambalaya but there's no place to get a good bowl of it where I live. Enjoy every mouthful.)

Brittney Inabnit: Kosher means that the factory which produces the food has to be inspected by the rabbi and blessed! by the rabbi. The factory cannot also process food that contains any ! meat product from a hooved animal (pigs, eg) and the food cannot contain those products. From what I understand it's a big deal for those of the Jewish faith.

Melissa Lavallie: American food is very original and it might not be that good for you but let's just leave that out!!

Armanda Hertel: I do not know

Michel Mccaulley: I'm afraid they are closed. But if you live near a farm then i recommend you put on a comouflage jacket (or drape yourself in a tent) and go sheep rustling. xx

Joni Ziak: I am sure that you have a stock of easter eggs and hot cross buns - fraid you're gonna have to make do until tomorrow big man
