Why are emotionally disturbed kids usually placed in special education?

Tijuana Tatsak: It's supposed to be a way to help students who are struggling with learning and achievement. The requirement for placement is that the emotional disturbance negatively impacts your lear! ning. Most often I've seen the label used for kids with anger and aggression issues, and they end up in a placement with a teacher who is able to understand them, get through to them, interact with them in a positive way, etc. However, something like depression can have a pretty big impact on learning too. So the answer to your question is that emotionally disturbed kids are placed in special education because general education wasn't working for them, and hopefully the alternate setting will help them be able to learn....Show more
