Terrell Lawman: Hi' .To me sometimes it do, and sometimes it doesn't . It depends on the person and on ones contacts, if they like you , no matter what you write and how you answered you will get B/A , from them no matter what. And if others , don't like you no matter what you write or comment , they will never give you B/A , and this includes TU's and TD's . Very interesting question.
Shandi Wedge: Well BA's are not usually poems. Everyone likes it when they are awarded a BA as it means you have made contact with another on this site. That is if the BA is genuine and not sarcastic.Good poetry is that which is oft thought but ne'er so well expressed. It is memorable and has special meaning for you the reader. As we all know poetry is very subjective.I don't give TD's but I was itching to make 24 TD's .....25....Show more

Dionna Doyel: Good poetry comes through a time of development.Read the work of famous poets.Listen with one ear to your criticism.Keep writing until you develope your own style.

Jestine Osumi: Not sure whether I'm adding anything new but here goes.Firstly BA's and points are a thing of persistence. The system is easily subv! erted, the most naive way being the use of multiple accounts a! nd awarding yourself BA. The comparison with other activities done by someone on their own is purely coincidental ;)I've acquired most of my BA's and points off the poetry section by answering chemistry questions no one else bothered to answer. In no way does that make me a good poet.Even without multiple accounts, award of BA's can be like friendship groups, giving each other gifts on the basis of companionship rather than merit. I note the temptation in myself to do this and I'm sure I am not alone here. There is a tribal nature to this that can become unhealthy. I'm not sure how we combat it under the current system. Some really good things have been said, both positive and critical about the nature of good poetry. If I read poetry that I believe to be good it is something that moves me and allows me to see or feel something I wouldn't otherwise. Every poet is a little different and every one takes a little while before I get familiar with their approach. Not eve! ry poem is moving. This does not mean it is bad poetry, it may be that I'm not the intended audience of the writer or not in the right mood at the time. Every poet has a unique voice and allows a glimpse into a slightly different world. Not every poem by a poet will effect me. I love the greats of poetry, though I probably don't read as much as I should.I posted a question about how reading poems made people feel a while back. The link is here:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ain7m......Show more
Coralie Goldsberry: I think you know the answer before you posted this. Points accumulate over time if one is active and survives long enough. Judge the person by comments and posts gathered over time and you get the truer picture.
Damion Oleksa: Hi Pandora; I`m not exceptional in exactitude and cannot say how many times I have dithered over a B.A., usually giving it to the person most on-topic or perceptive, then wondering. So, if I`m typical, it is a "! best-to-be-managed` system really. However, there are those who give B.! A,s without critiques, to `curry favour` , those others whereby a B.A., is far too small a token for a special piece, yet all is prone to taste, mood.So I guess I am saying that if only people would not purposely ooze B.A,s, and those cheats who purposely block those close behind them on the leaderboard and then rustle-up animosity vs the `competition` as occurs on some forums, it would/ could be a valid measure.Jut as pigs might fly, LOL. ...Show more
Chris Coggins: Good poetry is, in my opinion........as rare as rocking horse shlt. But ((((Pandora)) You need to read this one. It's doggerel obviously, but you do get honourable mention.http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am......Show more

Hobert Dula: Also...What in your opinion is good poetry?
Rufus Plough: we choose to share it as a way of sharing ideas and a way to help each other grow in our writing.
Alisa Kalei! wahea: What is good poetry? Like a flower or a pet, a recipe or a scenic view it all depends upon our own personal interests, likes and dislikes. Where I love the sea, even stormy weather, I know others who do not even go down to the beach. Where I adore home made kolokithopita and spanokopita, I have friends who would not eat anything vegetable if they were starving. So too do we each have our own tastes in poetry, in prose, in the romance of the word.
Marion Wieboldt: If points and BA = good poetry then mine must be epic! Cause I have like 692 points! I am the man!Its ok to be jealous....Show more
Kenneth Queener: Also...What in your opinion is good poetry?
Lanita Reichman: no points and ba's do not represent good poetry. to critique someones work is to give your opinion of what you think about it. whether you like it or think its good. someone else might think something entirely different than you do. if we were professionals it might be diffe! rent, to say whether its good poetry or not. however that still woul! d not assure that every one liked it and that the writer is a good poet. but on a site like this one, when some one writes poetry that doesnt get any bad answers and every one likes and brags about it, i would say they are a good poet. we know some who are, because we have made them known by our answers. we know that good poets get bad answers from jealous mean people sometimes but we are smart enough to tag them and not pay attention. in my opinion good poetry is a story intelligently told without confusion and guessing as to what the poet is saying . it is the passions and feelings the poet has about a certain subject . it is not written just to rhyme but to reveal passions in an artistic manner. the ability to tell the same old story in a different way so that the reader can say, "it is good".to be able to see a star or a tree or anything common and make a poem from it with passion revealed.like "beauty is in the eye of the be! holder" a poet is in the ability to see everything with the eye of beauty and passion and so he will write a good poem and be a good poet. a poem doesnt always have to rhyme and it can change pace after a few stanzas of flowing but it takes some one with passion and deep feelings while he is writing to get by with that and not making a break in the story but the changing of emotions showing and causing the different pace. TD,s do not bother me as again its only based on someones opinion, just like the TU,s are....Show more
Lita Thammorongsa: No! That's why the point system is a joke. I've seen the same guy post a Q, answer himself (in the guise of one of his MULTIPLE accounts AND award himself BEST ANSWER. And I've seen him do it MANY, many times. It's like cheating at solitaire and then boasting that you won. Utterly moronic! (And he calls US imbeciles! Hah!)((((((Hi, Pandora!))))
Bryant Chaudhry: Of course not Pandora, it means so! mething to only shallow bitter people. Thanks for posting
Ginny Tr! ickett: Points and BA's count for squat. They have nothing to do with poetry. You can acquire points and BA's in other areas of yahoo. You are fully aware of that Pandora but I can't help feeling that your Q may have been posted to TRY and enlighten where there is darkness! I hope you will succeed (lol).
Giovanni Malool: yes, they do,As long as your group likes it,pride is awesome.Troxx Also, a great poem is crap your friends love.
Carolynn Testani: Poetry is not different in kind from other types of literature, and not so very different from other types of art, or even from valid activity in other spheres (good poetry has a lot in common with good cookery, good coding, or even good scientifc research). So, focusing on the 'good' in 'good poetry' (rather than on the 'what makes it poetry question'):good poetry tells you something you don't already know;really good poetry tells you something important that you didn't already know;great poetry tells you something ! important which you didn't already know and which you were trying very hard to avoid noticing.......The amount of good poetry posted to this site - which is optimised for chat and socialising - is negligible.I have never seen an example of a poem which belonged to either of the other two categories on here (or even aspired to).Points and BA ratings indicate who is here to large it; if anything they have an inverse ratio to the quality of writing produced....Show more

Barton Slisz: What actually defines good and bad poetry though? In! my opinion any poem can be seen as good or bad depending on not only who is reading but the representation that they gain from it.Can a poem only be considered good due to a certain 'tick-box criteria' being fulfilled, and if it evolves outside of the poetry standard is it considered junk?I think good poetry is when you can tell the emotion behind it, i know nothing of scales and all of that 'poetic language' so i judge purely on the work in front of me....Show more

Elissa Curlin: 1) Good poetry is the one that transmits a feeling to the other person, an Aural condition, an Inspiration. The inspiration can be Patriotic, Emotional, Creative, Loving etc. Examples of good writers are Homer, who wrote the best long war poem ever (Epic), Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron, (Romantic), E, Dickinson (Aristocratic, Sad), Shakespeare (for many reasons), Yannis Ritsos (Patriotic), . Bad poetry is.... what ever is torturous! to your mind, has no special meaning, no message, not a certain and sp! ecific point of view, and is analogous to Bukowski and whoever believes and follows that stream.2)Points: When I was studying at the University, only 17 % of the people that started Engineering were finishing it, and only 13 % the Mechanical Department, I was attending. The system was based to points (grades). If you performed well, then you were receiving grades to continue. Lesser cases were not allowed to. Why? Because almost ALL of the Mechanical Engineers were supposed to work and be absorbed by the Defense Industry of the US of A. We HAD to be TOP! The professors were calling us the "Cream of the Crop" of the scientists. The perfectionism someone acquires when he gets involved in such a process, stays with him forever. If some believe that can do that, they can always go and try NOT a whole 6 and a half years of continuous studying, plus 4 years towards PhD, program, but (try) to pass ONE single freshman course. So, in a system that relates points with performance, ye! s, under ideal conditions, the system works. But when people like the one who was analyzed by Hector today, receive Best Answers through a generous self-voting process, then the system will collapse, since those people some day will get up on the Leader Board and DESTROY YAHOO's EFFORT to create a substantial Poetry section. The same stands for cliques who EXIST and favor their kin, friends and mediocre (because of jealousy to the worthy) members. This will be evident in a few years when people that receive almost ALL of their BAs through "side ways", will come to judge the young talents, and teach them that Picasso is a painter and Michelangelo is not! Or that Bukowski is a POET, that can stand in front of Oscar Wilde, Richard Lovelace and more, for Gods' sake!!! It is not only an illiterate point of view, but untalented and preposterous. Giorgio(Wait to see how many TDs I shall receive from the psychopaths for this answer I offered!)EDIT: (After BG's empathic answer!! And! the 24 TDs)(BG The only medication I have ever taken, was a few aspiri! ns. I carry the Orange Ribbon for about 9 months. See, good Aristocratic poets, are not nephews of anyone!
